USA Today - FOOD & DINING At 50, TV dinners enter the realm of
tray chic
The folks at Swanson aren't the only ones taking note of the 50th
anniversary of their famous frozen TV dinners. Also defrosting a few
comfort-food memories:
* Creative Chocolates of Vermont has concocted an Ultimate
TV Dinner ($10.25) with sweet tooths in mind. The compartmentalized tray
contains a mashed potato/hamburger patty entree made of chocolate; peas and
carrots made from mints; and dried fruit made from, well, dried fruit.
* Stoneware TV dinner trays are offered at Crate & Barrel ($7.95) and
Sur La Table ($27.50 for four).
* The Peninsula Beverly Hills Hotel serves haute TV dinners ($24-$32) on
its room service menu. Executive chef Bill Bracken whips up comfy classics
such as ''Grandma Bracken's All-Beef Meatloaf'' and serves them on an aluminum
foil-topped TV tray.
